The first round of 16 matches took place on Tuesday, and the Lotto Brussels Premier Padel P2 is well underway. It was a day to watch some of the new couples compete in this competition, as they were hitting the court for the first time.
Fans were able to see some of the newly formed projects during the morning shift. Esther Carnicero and Marina Lobo were the first to act, making their debuts with a very difficult match. The number six pair, Claudia Jensen and Jess Castelló, were very strong from the beginning to the end and defeated the Spanish 2-6 and 4-6.
Unfortunate were the Carolinas, Navarro, and Orsi, who all lost their opening games. Against Ariadna Cañellas-Teresa Navarro, the Italian and the Malagasy lady won the opening set, but they were unable to hold the lead. The Spanish pair, who had advanced through the qualifying rounds, responded with great spirit and ultimately reversed the results, winning 6-3, 4-6, and 4-6.
And this is not the end of the list. Lorena Rufo-Bea Caldera was also unable to claim victory for herself. The dependable Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero, who are increasingly demonstrating their immense promise, defeated the determined Cáceres and Valladolid women in three sets (1-6, 6-4, and 2-6).
Of the newly formed couples, Marina Guinart and Araceli Martínez were the only ones to have a winning debut. The Catalan and the Murcian had a hard time finishing their match, but in the second set tie-break (6-2 and 7-6), they were able to break Patricia Martínez-Águeda Pérez’s resistance.
Vero Virseda and Martita Ortega achieved a solid victory.
On the opening day of Brussels P2, the favorites did not show mercy, despite Jensen-Castelló’s impressive performance. This was the situation between Verso Virseda and Martita Ortega, who are still becoming quite popular on the court. In just over an hour of play, the number five easily defeated Sara Ruiz and Carla Mesa, winning 6-3 and 6-1.
Carmen Goenaga and Aranza Osoro, however, suffered a little more. The responsibility for landing the opening blow of the match fell to the Spanish-Argentine pair, but Soriano-Fassio were able to respond and tie the game. Although the outcome could have gone either way, Vikinga and Goenaga’s neatness in the closing games ultimately secured their trip to the quarterfinals.
Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz were victorious from the first-morning shift of the P2 round of 16 in Brussels. Despite a challenging test at their debut in Belgium, the Andalusian and the Navarrese passed with flying colors.
The eighth couple executed a challenging opening set that was ultimately resolved with a break in the final breaths. In the second round, Juanlu Esbri and Javi Rico were left astonished and unable to respond to the punch. Coki and Jon’s remarkable victory (7-6 and 6-2) made them the first couple to advance to the quarterfinals.
