This week, the Australian Padel team is participating in the Senior Padel Championships in Alicante, Spain. The men’s squad, which includes former world No. 1 Pat Rafter, is well-known.
Based on past success, Australia was directly qualified for the International Padel Federation competition, which included participation from men and women in five age groups: 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, and 55+.Callum Beale, Head of Game Expansion at Tennis Australia, said, “We’re thrilled to have so many talented players compete in the Senior World Padel Championships and represent Australia on the global stage.”
“International representative tournaments like these showcase the rising professionalism and popularity of pétilla in Australia by giving our top players an opportunity to compete against the best players in other nations,” he continued.
This week marked the start of the championships’ group round, in which 16 national teams are vying for a spot in the quarterfinals. The final games are scheduled for April 18–20.
After receiving a bye in the first round, the men’s team from Australia defeated Ireland 5-0 in the second round. To secure a place in the quarterfinals, they will next face Italy. Germany and the USA both defeated the women’s team.
