The recent press conference held by the Professional Padel Association (PPA) was a significant event in the ongoing conflict with Premier Padel. The conference, which took place at La Ciudad de la Raqueta, was attended by key figures such as Álex Ruiz, Fede Chingotto, Martín Di Nenno, José García Diestro, and the PPA’s lawyer. The primary focus of the conference was to address the players’ demands and the issues they face with Premier Padel.
One of the main points discussed was the review of the contract signed in 2022. The players admitted that they were not fully aware of the details of the contract at the time of signing, as it was concluded amidst a legal battle with the World Padel Tour. The contract, which is over 100 pages long, contains contradictory points that have caused confusion and frustration among the players.
Another critical issue raised was the need for greater participation in decision-making. The players expressed their desire to move beyond being a merely consultative body and to have more influence over the measures adopted by Premier Padel. They also called for more professional conditions in tournaments, including improvements in Player Service and more stability in calendar planning.
The players also demanded fewer compulsory tournaments, seeking to reduce the number of tournaments that count towards the rankings. This would give them more control over their competitive calendar and allow for better planning and preparation. Additionally, they highlighted the need for clarity in the relationship between the International Federation of Padel (FIP) and Premier Padel, pointing to a conflict of interest with Luigi Carraro, who holds positions in both organizations.
The PPA’s press conference underscored the players’ dissatisfaction with the current state of professional padel and their determination to bring about change. The players’ demands for transparency, fairness, and greater involvement in decision-making reflect their commitment to improving the sport and ensuring a better future for all players involved.
