Plans have been submitted for the construction of three padel courts at Active+. The proposed development includes two double courts and a single court, which will be built on what is currently a five-a-side football pitch.
Padel, described as “the fastest growing sport in the world”, is a racquet sport played on an enclosed court roughly half the size of a standard tennis court. The sport combines elements of tennis and squash, with the ball allowed to bounce off the walls while remaining in play.
An East Coast Padel representative stated that “the sport is booming” but “Hull is lagging behind.” He explained that there are already three padel sites in Lincoln, and due to Hull’s larger population, it’s expected that padel will become extremely popular in the city.
The council will now review and decide upon the application, which could pave the way for more padel facilities in the region.
