Sheffield is set to welcome its first dedicated padel club as the Manchester-based sports brand Club de Padel announces its expansion plans. The new venue will be part of the Neepsend development, a project aimed at revitalizing the former Cannon Brewery site.
Club de Padel, which gained popularity for its innovative approach to the racket sport, will open five panoramic padel courts in Sheffield by 2025. The club will also feature a club shop, coffee and juice bar, and additional social and wellness spaces. This expansion is a significant step for the brand, which has quickly become a favorite among padel enthusiasts since its inception in Manchester in 2023.
David Blake, co-founder of Club de Padel, expressed his excitement about bringing the club to Sheffield. “We’re really excited to bring Club de Padel to Sheffield and have the chance to breathe new life into this incredible space alongside the team at Capital&Centric,” he said. The club aims to introduce as many people as possible to padel, a sport that has seen a surge in popularity across the UK.
The Neepsend development, led by Capital&Centric, will include 270 new homes, workspaces, and cultural areas. The padel club will be part of the second phase of the project, which is expected to further boost Sheffield’s reputation as an outdoor, active city.
Tom Wilmot, joint managing director of Capital&Centric, highlighted the transformative potential of the project. “Opening a padel club in this post-industrial setting will create an immersive and engaging experience unlike anywhere else,” he said. The project has received a £11.67 million grant from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to kick-start the regeneration.
Club de Padel’s expansion to Sheffield is a testament to the growing popularity of padel and the brand’s commitment to making the sport accessible to everyone. With its innovative approach and community-focused ethos, Club de Padel is poised to make a significant impact on the local sports scene.
