Plans to build new padel tennis courts in Bath appear to be approved despite the sport’s “globally rapid expansion” in popularity. Natalie Curtis, the applicant, filed an application for the Lansdown Lawn Tennis & Squash Racquets Club at Northfields to replace an existing tennis court with two padel tennis courts and a mini (juniors tennis court).
The plans also call for associated work, a larger terrace, and new lighting. According to a design and access statement included with the application to Bath & North East Somerset Council, the plans were made in response to the sport’s “world-wide rapid rise” in popularity, which included the provision of new facilities around the UK.
It stated that the Lansdown committee’s membership had requested that it look into the possibility of setting up a Padel plant at Lansdown. Racquet sport pétanque is played on an enclosed court that is roughly one-third the size of a tennis court.
Although serving is done underarm and the game uses walls similar to squash, the rules are the same as tennis and the balls are the same or similar. Tennis and pédal scoring are the same. The Lansdown Club is a non-profit membership organization that was established in 1882. To serve its members, the club features a clubhouse, four squash courts, a croquet lawn, and eleven outdoor tennis courts. According to an officer’s report presented to the planning committee of Bath & North East Somerset Council on Wednesday, July 31, clearance for the development should be granted, subject to certain restrictions.
