Liverpool is set to make waves in the sporting world with the introduction of the UK’s first floating Padel courts at Liverpool Waters. This innovative project, spearheaded by Peel Waters, aims to bring a unique sporting experience to the city’s waterfront, joining an exclusive list of global hotspots like Dubai, Miami, and Helsinki.
The proposed facility will be located within Princes Dock at Liverpool Waters and will feature three floating Padel courts. These courts will be constructed on a special floating platform from Finland, with the courts themselves manufactured in Spain. The project is currently awaiting approval from Liverpool City Council, with a decision expected in early 2025 and a potential opening in mid-2025.
Padel, a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, is known for its social aspect and accessibility. It is typically played in doubles, making it a highly engaging and social activity. The floating Padel courts at Liverpool Waters will not only provide a unique sporting experience but also foster a sense of community among players and spectators.
In addition to the courts, the facility will include a floating clubhouse designed by Imagineering Global LLP. The clubhouse will feature a bar and kitchen, a decked seating area, and a small specialist retail store. This Scandinavian-style clubhouse will provide a perfect spot for players and spectators to relax, socialize, and enjoy the stunning waterfront views.
James Whittaker, managing director of Peel Waters, expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the floating Padel courts will be an iconic, must-visit destination for both Padel enthusiasts and general spectators. Gareth Evans, a leading figure in the Padel community, emphasized the importance of the social side of the sport and the unique environment that the floating facility will create.
