Thanks to six teammates from Sporting KC, one of the fastest-rising sports in Europe may now call the Kansas City metro area home.
On Saturday morning, August 10, the inaugural meeting of La Casa del Padel, the first padel club in the Kansas City metro area, took place in Overland Park. Padel, a rapidly expanding sport in Europe, has recently made its way to the Midwest.
The leaders mentioned that the sport originated in Mexico and uses racquets. It’s been compared as a hybrid of squash and tennis. With the tireless efforts of six Sporting KC soccer players—Roger Espinoza, Andrew Fontas, Uri Rosell, Johnny Russell, Daniel Salloi, and Graham Zusi—La Casa del Padel is more than simply a club; it’s a passion project brought to reality.
According to the founder, Padel provided them with a means of disconnecting from the field, and they are currently business partners. According to one of the club’s co-founders, uniting Kansas Citians is the main goal.
Daniel Salloi stated, “This is one of those things where we’re bringing this sport here for the first time, the first club.” Additionally, we hope to invest in the community, give back to it, and encourage more people to visit, experience this new activity, and build relationships through Padel.
The squad now has the opportunity to introduce its teammates to the culture and growing appeal of the sport in Kansas City through the club. It is situated at 6800 W. 91st St., Overland Park, off of 91st and Metcalf Ave.
