The first padel tennis courts in Somerset are now open to the public. Matches and training are held on the two brand-new outdoor courts at Brean Country Club. Padel tennis is a popular racquet sport that mixes features of squash and tennis, and it originated in Mexico. Groups of all ages and skill levels can play together on an enclosed court that is around one-third the size of a tennis court.

People can register to find a partner to play with at the club in addition to using the courts to learn and practice the sport. Sarah House, the director of Brean Leisure Park, stated:

“It was a bit of a punt but there aren’t any other public courts in Somerset, so we just thought, why not? You usually play it with four people whilst you can play it as singles, with two, but you get a lot more sort of atmosphere and fun when playing as doubles.”
