Estadio de La Cartuja has a storied history, having hosted Davis Cup matches, the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, and even Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey victory in football. Now, it’s set to welcome the stars of world padel.
The Players
Among the top players gracing the courts are Juan Lebron and Paquito Navarro. As the number 2 seed in the 32-pair men’s draw, they’re ready to make their mark. Their opening match will be against Javi Rico and Juanlu Esbri, two players who previously eliminated Paquito (then paired with Sanyo Gutierrez) in Riyadh during the first Premier Padel of the season. At the top of the draw, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, finalists in Brussels, will face off against José Antonio Diestro and Pablo Lijo. Meanwhile, the dynamic pair of Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan, also finalists in Brussels, will debut against Javi Ruiz and Pablo Cardona. Women’s Draw
The women’s draw features 28 pairs, with the top four seeds (Josemaria/Sanchez, Brea/Gonzalez, Triay/Fernandez, and Salazar/Icardo) receiving byes in the first round. World number 1 pair Josemaria/Sanchez will face either Canovas/Velasco or Barrera/Caparros in their debut match. Brea/Gonzalez, finalists in Brussels, could meet the young Alonso/Ustero, who will play against Iglesias Segador/Las Heras in the first round.
