The London Cancer Hub in Sutton is set to welcome a new addition to its facilities with the approval of four padel courts. This development aims to enhance recreational opportunities within the five-hectare district dedicated to cancer research.
The courts will be built in Belmont following planning approval from Sutton Council. Social Sports Society, the operator behind Wembley Park Padel, will oversee the project, which is expected to be completed by July. The initiative is part of a broader vision to create a world-leading cancer research district, with public consultation highlighting the need for additional amenities.
The facility will provide ten hours of free court access each week, including play sessions, coaching for at-risk youth, and partnerships with local schools. Designed with sustainability in mind, the courts will be constructed using reclaimed wood and feature integrated planting to complement the surrounding landscape.
This project reflects the growing popularity of padel, a sport that blends elements of tennis and squash. The courts will remain in place for up to seven years, with the flexibility to be relocated or adapted as the London Cancer Hub evolves.
The approval marks a significant step in fostering community engagement and promoting physical activity within the research district. Residents and visitors alike will soon have the opportunity to enjoy this dynamic sport in a setting dedicated to innovation and health.
