Tolito Aguirre and Gonzalo Alfonso, known as “Los Mágicos”, have officially announced their separation after a series of disappointing performances in recent tournaments. The Argentine duo, once considered one of the most exciting pairs in Premier Padel, struggled to maintain their form, leading to their decision to part ways.
Their decline began after a strong showing in Brussels, where they pushed Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini to the limit. However, subsequent defeats in Asunción, Buenos Aires, and Rome exposed their difficulties in competing at the highest level. Despite their undeniable talent, they failed to replicate their past success, prompting them to rethink their partnership.
Aguirre and Alfonso had previously left A1 Padel, where they were ranked number one, to challenge themselves in Premier Padel. Their transition was met with high expectations, but they struggled against the elite players of the circuit. While they reached two finals early in the season, their performances were aided by the absence of top-ranked players due to a boycott.
In their farewell statement, the duo expressed gratitude for their journey together, emphasizing that their friendship remains strong despite their professional split.
This was the statement:
“Today is a sad day in which we announce our separation, what we are today and where we have become together, full of great moments, victories, and much, much experience. Our greatest professional and personal advancement in life has been together, and that’s why right now our friendship and how much we love each other are paramount, allowing us to continue moving forward and each of us to be our best selves separately, as we have tried together but so far have not succeeded.
Only words of gratitude, respect, and admiration for each other come out.”
Their final tournament as a team will take place in Valladolid, where they hope to end their partnership on a positive note before embarking on separate paths in the professional circuit. Fans will undoubtedly remember Los Mágicos for their creativity, flair, and unforgettable moments on the court.
