The Volvo Padel Open will return in 2025, with improved match formats, more categories, and a greater emphasis on up-and-coming players, according to an official announcement by Volvo Car Malaysia. The event intends to strengthen its position as the biggest padel tournament in the country and foster Malaysia’s quickly expanding padel community.
The event is anticipated to attract up to 320 players, ranging from novices who are just starting out in the sport to seasoned enthusiasts who have participated in regional circuits. It will take place every weekend from June 21 until the grand finals on July 27.
This year’s event marks a substantial advancement over the first competition and reflects Volvo’s ongoing endorsement of padel as a fast-paced, socially engaged sport. Padel, according to the company, is a logical progression of its core principles of wellness, inclusion, innovation, and community.
The Volvo name has been strongly associated with padel in Malaysia, Patricia Yaw, Director of Marketing Operations and Public Relations at Volvo Car Malaysia, emphasized. According to her, the organization wants to increase the effect of this year’s competition by providing both novice and expert players with personalized experiences, new match styles, and alluring rewards. Professional-led coaching clinics and more court time are two other initiatives, especially for new players who want to improve their abilities and meet other padel players.
With more than 25 million players across 110 countries, padel has grown to become the fastest-growing sport in the world since its inception in the 1960s. Its distinctive combination of quick, approachable gameplay and its focus on teamwork as a doubles sport has contributed to its growing popularity in Malaysia.
Along with returning club partners Padelground and PadelKu, the 2025 Volvo Padel Open will also feature Joy Division Padel as an official venue partner for the first time. Free pre-tournament coaching sessions, a Volvo-branded uniform, first-class access to the finals, and unique hospitality experiences are just a few of the special perks that participants can anticipate.
Joy Division Padel’s general manager, Sean U’ren-Szeto, was excited about working with the competition. He emphasized the value of providing local players with access to higher levels of competition and skill development, pointing out the remarkable talent among Malaysian players who have trained at the club and participated in regional competitions.
Thomas Ryard, co-director of Padelground, noted that the sport’s allure is found in its vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. He gave the Volvo Padel Open credit for increasing interest and involvement, especially among social players, fitness enthusiasts, and trend-setters. He went on to say that the happiness and camaraderie that padel fosters among its players are the true indicators of its success, not points.
The level of play among Malaysian competitors has significantly increased over the previous year’s competition, according to Charl Hermus Marais, Operations Director at PadelKu. PadelKu is dedicated to raising the bar for competition and making sure players are ready for tournament-level play, and coaching teams are currently active in three locations, including the recently opened Megah club in Petaling Jaya.
The Volvo Padel commence 2025 registration period will commence on June 3 and end on July 3, or earlier if all player spots are taken. Volvo’s sponsorship guarantees that padel will continue to be a celebration of community spirit and healthy competition in addition to being a skill-based game as the sport continues to gain popularity across the country.
