Agustín Tapia opened up about the difficulties he faced when he first arrived in Spain to compete on the professional padel circuit. The Argentine admitted that his initial months were marked by early exits in tournaments. “When I arrived in Spain, during the first six months I lost in the round of 16 and round of 32,” Tapia recalled in an interview with Marca.
Turning point with Fernando Belasteguín
Tapia explained that his fortunes changed when he received a call from Fernando Belasteguín, one of the sport’s greatest legends. Their partnership quickly bore fruit. “When Bela called me, I was lucky that we had a good first tournament, even though we lost in the round of 16, and then in the second one we were able to win,” Tapia said, highlighting how the collaboration gave him confidence and momentum.
Building confidence and success
The Argentine’s reflections underline how crucial mentorship and partnerships can be in shaping a player’s career. Training and competing alongside Belasteguín allowed Tapia to refine his game, gain experience, and eventually establish himself among the elite of padel.
