Gibraltar padel tennis association joins International Padel Federation

The Gibraltar Padel Tennis Association (GPTA) has been officially admitted as the newest member of the International Padel Federation (FIP). The decision was confirmed during the FIP General Assembly held in Acapulco, Mexico, on Friday, following a successful application process.

A step forward for Gibraltar

With this admission, the GPTA now sits within the sport’s global governing structure alongside some of the strongest padel nations in the world. This marks a significant milestone in the development of the game in Gibraltar, providing recognition of its growth and offering a platform for further progress.

Expanding opportunities for local players

Membership in the FIP is expected to open doors to greater international competition, development opportunities, and recognition for local players, coaches, and officials. As padel continues to grow rapidly worldwide, Gibraltar’s inclusion strengthens its presence on the global stage while broadening opportunities for the local community.

Official reaction from Gibraltar

The Minister for Sport, Leslie Bruzon, congratulated the association and emphasized the effort behind the achievement.

“I am delighted at the news this evening from Mexico,” said Bruzon on Friday.

“It is a huge step for the GPTA to become a full member of the International Padel Federation.”

“This would not have been possible without the hard work of the GPTA committee led by Ashley Perez, Gareth Jones, and many others behind the scenes.”

“Globally, padel is one of the largest growing sports, with the same applicable locally.”

“For the GPTA to now sit as an equal with the strongest nations in the world is a remarkable achievement and a source of great pride for our community.”

“This is a momentous occasion, the potential positive impact of which we cannot underestimate.”
