During a visit to the newly opened S3 Sports Society club in Derby, the focus turned to improving a key padel shot: the vibora. Vejay, a regular player at the facility, had been struggling with excessive rebound and a lack of depth in his execution. He asked for a technical review to understand what was going wrong.
Identifying the Problem
Upon observing Vejay’s vibora, it became clear that the shot lacked control and penetration. The ball was bouncing too high off the glass, giving opponents time to reset. The issue stemmed from a combination of grip tension, body positioning, and timing. His wrist was too rigid, and his contact point was often too far behind his body.
Making the Adjustments
After a short analysis, a few targeted changes were introduced. Vejay adjusted his stance to stay more side-on, relaxed his grip slightly, and focused on striking the ball earlier with a more downward trajectory. These refinements allowed him to generate better slice and keep the ball lower after the bounce.
“I didn’t think such small changes could make such a big difference,” Vejay said after the session.
Results on Court
The transformation was immediate. Vejay’s vibora began to travel deeper into the court with significantly less rebound. The shot became more consistent and difficult for opponents to retrieve. His confidence grew with each rally, and the improvement was visible not just in technique but in match play.
“Now I feel like I can actually use the vibora to control points, not just defend,” he added.
Why the Vibora Matters
In padel, the vibora is a strategic weapon. It’s used to apply pressure without overcommitting, keeping opponents pinned while maintaining net control. A well-executed vibora can force errors, open space, and set up winning volleys. The key lies in mastering spin, timing, and placement — all of which Vejay began to harness through focused adjustments.
The session at S3 Sports Society highlighted how technical awareness and minor tweaks can elevate a player’s game, turning a struggling shot into a reliable asset.
